* Planes, Trains and Automobile with Vehicle Tracking – How to use Autodesk Vehicle Tracking

Autodesk Vehicle Tracking is much more than just vehicle swept path analysis. Come join us in this presentation to find out for yourself how Vehicle Tracking in Civil 3D and InfraWorks can improve your project decision making. Vehicle Tracking allows even beginner users to make educated decisions concerning their individual projects. During this lab, we’ll explore all the functions of Vehicle Tracking and design the following: starting a project in InfraWorks and then importing it into Vehicle Tracking to design a parking lot ; ensure our project design meets city standards; utilize the Vehicle Tracking information for detailed grading design; create a roundabout within the project; and much, much more. After this hands-on lab, you will have gained new skills that you can take back to the office and show others the many different ways to use Vehicle Tracking software, Civil 3D and InfraWorks. This session features Vehicle Tracking, AutoCAD Civil 3D and InfraWorks.

Controlling the Display of Designs for Civil Designers

In the MicroStation CONNECT Edition, there are many ways you can control how you view your designs. In this course, you learn how to control the display of levels in both the active and those of attached references. Set View Attributes by creating a Display Style that will be matched up to a Display Rule. You will then create a Clip Volume, which will limit the region that is displayed within a view to the area of that around the project site, and then finally preserving all these view settings through the creation of a Saved View.

Printing and Publishing

The final phase in completing a design project is producing the construction document set. It can be as simple as fencing an area in a design model and printing what is seen within the view window using the default settings or may include the use of sheet models, pen tables and print styles. Drawing sheets may be printed individually or in a “batch” mode using Print Organizer. This workbook contains exercises intended to familiarize a new MicroStation user with the basic printing capabilities found in the MicroStation CONNECT Edition.

* Solid Modeling using Autodesk Inventor for Bridge and Drainage

This session will show the basics of creating parametric models using Inventor. Using parametric modeling, solid models can define families of geometry used in preliminary Civil design. These include, but are not limited to, bridge components, drainage structures, and other 3D components used to visualize a new construction site. The solid model can then be passed to downstream applications for analysis and detailing as the requirements for the project move from the layout phase to the design phase. Emphasis here will be on creating parametric sketches that use variables to create families of like components.

A Whole new “Field to Finish” – Civil 3D Survey

The ability to download field collected survey data and automatically “draw” an intelligent base map is called “field to finish”. Field to finish methods typically result in the automatic creation of: points, point symbols, point labels, topographic feature lines, and general descriptive line work.

The techniques for good field to finish are easy to implement with knowledgeable use of hardware and software throughout the data collection, download, and reduction process.

With the latest advances in LiDar and UAV data capture, how can we utilize the filed to finish feature will different data capture methods? Join this session for a deeper look into all things survey in Civil 3D.

* Solid Modeling using Autodesk Inventor for Bridge and Drainage (Repeat)

This session will show the basics of creating parametric models using Inventor. Using parametric modeling, solid models can define families of geometry used in preliminary Civil design. These include, but are not limited to, bridge components, drainage structures, and other 3D components used to visualize a new construction site. The solid model can then be passed to downstream applications for analysis and detailing as the requirements for the project move from the layout phase to the design phase. Emphasis here will be on creating parametric sketches that use variables to create families of like components.

* Computing Earthwork Volumes with OpenRoads Designer

Earthworks are one of the largest costs to consider for any project. OpenRoads Designer’s model (BIM) based approach provides significant flexibility and accuracy in quantity calculations. Come see how the OpenRoads Designer model provides cut, fill, and unsuitable material meshes which are used to report volumes in a format to meet your project requirements. You can report on these 3D volumes with conventional end area volume methods, or compute volumes more accurately with a full prismoid approach directly from the 3d model, or even “slice” up the model to report volumes segregated for staged construction, different areas of the project, or for each plan sheet.

* Practical Intersection Design and Modeling

In this course you will learn techniques to maximize OpenRoads Designer capabilities and begin design of a multi-lane, divided intersection in 3D. You will learn how to define the horizontal layout of the intersection, set elevations and cross slopes within the intersection and how to dynamically interact with the geometry to design in 3D. Once the geometry is defined, you will learn how to use the horizontal, vertical and model detailing tools to create a true, solids-based intersection model which includes pavement layers, islands, curbs and sidewalks. You will also learn how to leverage the design model for analysis, plan production and data delivery for construction.

Clash Detection – Your Chance to be a Hero

Somebody else checked for construction conflicts, right? How much are you willing to bet? Conflict Detection is easy: in an hour’s training you can rule out oversights that can blow up schedules and budgets. They may not be your utilities, but it’s your project: protect it! Any 3D solid (i.e., the engineering model) can be checked for hard and soft conflicts. You can even check to see what a construction trench will conflict. Don’t let a costly conflict slip through the cracks. Ensure that your project is clear. Be the hero!

First Coast Expressway: Lessons Learned on the 22-mile Path to OpenRoads

Since the summer of 2016, we have experienced the full gambit of challenges transitioning from a traditional Geopak design workflow into one that fully embraces the utility of the OpenRoads platform. Looking back, our team selected a brand new, 22-mile express corridor to serve as our pilot project for OpenRoads. Although this may have been an ambitious goal and first step into a new workspace, this project could not have been completed without the efficiency and benefits of the new software. The rapid pace at which design alterations were able to be incorporated along with the increased accuracy in design quickly made up for the learning curve we experienced in the initial onset of the project. We would like to share our story of how OpenRoads contributed to the successful delivery of our project and some of the lessons learned along the way that will help others navigate the same transition.
