BIM for Transportation and Transit Projects

OpenBuildings Designer is a scalable, multi-discipline building design application that enables BIM workflows to develop and design buildings of any size or complexity from airports, office buildings, DOT maintenance and support buildings such as toll plazas, vehicular maintenance buildings, comfort stations and weigh stations. Bentley’s federated BIM approach allows quick design alternative exploration and adaptive re-use.

OpenBuildings Station Designer has tools and transportation BIM content for both above and below ground rail stations. It also includes special templates for creating tunnel segments (with Bentley’s Computational Design tool Generative Components), which are based on linear alignments from Bentley’s OpenRail solution. So, if the track changes, the tunnel will automatically change as well, and the station will also align. The companion product LEGION software will enable collaborative digital workflows to fully model pedestrian activities and journeys to and from trains, platforms, and through stations.

BIM for Owners: Easily Manage Building Spaces and Assets

Owners are faced with the challenge of easily managing spaces and assets beyond design and construction and into operations to successfully sustain and manage buildings and campuses ranging from Transportation, Retail, Office, Lab/Healthcare, and Airports. This session will cover how OpenBuildings Designer can enable you to create, manage, report, track, and import data on spaces, furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) across multiple building models. Learn how interoperability between BIM tools plays a major role in referencing and consuming building data in formats such as Revit, Sketchup, IFC, RFA, and COBie to reduce risks. See how you can leverage existing facilities data by promoting legacy 2D CAD graphics to intelligent building spaces and assets for space planning without modeling the entire facility in 3D, as well as how to combine drawings, maps, and models to create a common data environment of your campus.

* Utilizing OpenRoads Modeling to Develop & Analyze Maintenance of Traffic Concepts

This session focuses on modeling Maintenance of Traffic (MOT). Correctly analyzing and developing a MOT concept is key to any engineering design. This presentation will be a live demonstration on how to develop a MOT model for multiple scenarios. Modeling allows engineers to  quickly and accurately analyze different MOT concepts. This results in less design errors and better overall construct-ability. There are different levels of MOT modeling that all contribute to a good design. Even the simplest MOT models can provide valuable insight to an engineer. Both complex and simple model alternatives will be presented. Demonstrations will be provided for the following scenarios: (1) Two-lane to four-lane widening project, (2) Single-lane roundabout (3) Minor urban reconstruction.

Printing and Publishing

The final phase in completing a design project is producing the construction document set. It can be as simple as fencing an area in a design model and printing what is seen within the view window using the default settings or may include the use of sheet models, pen tables and print styles. Drawing sheets may be printed individually or in a “batch” mode using Print Organizer. This workbook contains exercises intended to familiarize a new MicroStation user with the basic printing capabilities found in the MicroStation CONNECT Edition.

* Under the Surface with Subsurface Utilities

Building a drainage model is fast and easy, but a LOT happens under the surface when you click Subsurface Utilities buttons. This presentation digs into how OpenRoads and StormCAD unite to provide a comprehensive drainage and utility solution. What happens when you click Place Node? or Place Conduit? or Compute? How do you confirm the results you got? Where did those newly designed pipe sizes come from? How do you constrain the design to your needs? Join us as we answer these questions.

Introduction to OpenSite Designer for Civil 3D Users

This course is designed to help Civil 3D users understand the basic tools within OpenSite Designer. Users will learn work-flows for creating a site project and also learn about using the new automation and optimization tools for grading. You will begin by creating the conceptual horizontal layout of the site that includes the building footprint, parking lots, main drive and connector drives. Once the conceptual horizontal layout is complete you will run the Grading Solver which will optimize the grading for the site and also define the elevations of the 3D site elements.

* Computing Earthwork Volumes

Earthworks are one of the largest costs to consider for any project. OpenRoads Designer’s model-based design (BIM) approach provides significant flexibility and accuracy in quantity calculations. Come see how the modeling capabilities of OpenRoads Designer help you calculate cut, fill, unsuitable, subsurface, subgrade, and other custom quantities to meet your project requirements. You can report on these 3D volumes with conventional end area volume methods, or compute volumes more accurately with a full prismoid approach directly from the 3d model, or even “slice” up the model to report volumes segregated for staged construction, different areas of the project, or for each plan sheet.

Enabling 3D Design Review and Collaboration with iTwin Design Review

For years engineers have been designing in 3D but, with a lack of viable review tools, reviewers have been forced to review and certify on 2D sheets. Time allocation for design reviews continues to be compressed, leaving less and less time for design review preparation and duplication of design artifacts. Learn how iTwin Design Review enables a simplified, 2D/3D hybrid workflow for design review and collaboration. See how project teams can leverage a Digital Twin to easily share design context and provide review feedback on design deliverables through review, collaboration and quality tools.

* OpenRoads Designer: Creating and Manipulating the Corridor

In this course, you will create a roadway corridor and then explore the many tools and techniques to edit and manipulate the corridor. We will take a look at how to add multiple templates drops along the corridor as you encounter intersections, driveways and turn lanes and how to edit and copy template drops in lieu of creating a new template. We will show how to make the corridor follow edge of pavement geometry using point controls and corridor references. You will learn how the secondary alignment tool aids in changing the direction of template processing as it applies to point controls and corridor reference elements. You will also learn how to use parametric constraints to override default template values for pavement depths, curb heights, shoulder slopes and ditch widths and how to use the clipping reference tool to clip out a portion of
your corridor. We will take a look at how corridors interact with other corridors by learning how to use target aliasing to seek corridors. And finally we will show how to create end condition exceptions in areas that require a different type of end condition solution.
